October 30 poetry reading canceled.
Unfortunately, due to the upcoming weather we've canceled the reading for the 30th. We look forward to doing it in the future, though, once our readers and audience can more easily make it.

Award-winning poet John Brehm October 30 at 7:30 pm.
Taking the reader from the subways of New York City to the savannas of Paleolithic Africa to the transplant ward of Kyoto University Hospital, John Brehm's new collection of poems, Help Is on the Way, is enlivened by the same subtle music, penetrating wit, and emotional honesty that have won him high praise over the years.
John Brehm’s poems have appeared in Poetry, The Gettysburg Review, The Southern Review, Gulf Coast, Barrow Street, Prairie Schooner, the Missouri Review and many other journals and anthologies. He is author of Sea of Faith, winner of the 2004 Brittingham Prize in Poetry, and associate editor of The Oxford Book of American Poetry. He lived in New York City for many years and now resides in Portland, Oregon.

More info on the Incredible Mild
debuting tomorrow! This is straight from the Sixpoint horse's mouth:
"This beer was made using a brewing process known as parti-gyle brewing. On Sept 14th, Sixpoint brewed a barleywine using only the richest of the wort to create The Old Redhooker Barleywine Ale. Once they collected what they needed for the barleywine, they then collected the remaining sugar from the grain to create a second unique beer that we are happy to introduce to you as The Incredible Mild Ale. This is a low alcohol session-able beer with a 'no-waste' brewing approach. The color is amber. The aroma is hop forward with a blend of Goldings and Fuggle in the nose. It's a dry beer with a crisp finish. The flavor is balanced between the low bitterness & maltiness with subtle toffee and nutty notes."

Pacific Standard and Sixpoint celebrate our 5th anniversary!
We recently celebrated our 5th anniversary, but we thought that a 5th anniversary deserves more than just one party. So we collaborated with Sixpoint in order to bring you several weeks of rare beers from their cellar. Starting on the 10th, we'll tap a different delicious curiosity from Sixpoint each Wednesday for five straight Wednesdays (get it?). Here's the tentative schedule (with links to beer info; we don't have much info yet on the first two but will put it up when we have it):
October 10: The Incredible Mild (brand-new, limited edition)
October 17: French Saison (limited edition)
October 24: Mad Scientists #12: Goser the Gozerian (limited edition)
October 31: 2010 Gorilla Warfare (last keg in existence)
November 7: Mad Scientists #3: Big Sticke Double Alt (last keg in existence)
So as Quintana would say, you got a date Wednesday, man. Wooo! Come as early as possible, since these are all single kegs and will go very quickly.

The debates and election.
As we did four years ago, we'll be showing the debates (both presidential and vice) on our big screens with audio. If you want to watch the debates, please arrive early in order to make sure you get space, since it will be limited (not to mention that the debates may have to share our space with A's playoff games, results of the last few games of the season pending). We'll also, of course, have the election results on November 6. Again, get here early for that because we can only admit so many people into the bar. We look forward to seeing you and yelling/celebrating/crying together!
