Plumbers are not incredibly fast.

This time, the delay in posting isn't due to frenzied activity, but merely the fact that not too much is going on at the space these days. It's comforting to know that almost all of the work is done, and that we just have small projects left, like the following ones, which we finished in the last few days:

--Completing our last table, our pet weathered wood one.
--Framing out our electric box.
--Buying a cash register.
--Mounting rope lights to make our skylight sparkle at night.

At the same time, it's frustrating to be nearly done but still un-open. That's because our plumber is still working in the space. He's almost finished, and at that point we can finally get our inspections, pull our license, and open for business.

Stay tuned for updates, especially about new employee hiring!

By the way

Despite what some Ashleys might lead you to believe, if you come by our bar to help out, you won't get drunk. Well, we'll buy you a beer afterwards across the street, and the rest is up to you. You'll mostly get a lot done helping us with various fun little jobs.

Post-weekend update

This past weekend:

--I put a second coat of "blue tang" on the walls in the back room and various areas in the front room. Jon got up on a ladder and finished some miscellaneous edging work. So all our non-floor painting is done.
--We put in some nice waterproof back-bar flooring and caulked a bunch of areas. Most waterproof bar ever.
--Bathroom threshold? Yeah.
--Track lighting in the back room? Yeah.
--Spotlights on our signs? Oui.
--New fancy iron brackets to hold up our drink ledge? Yes.
--Stained glass all finished and clipped in? Indeed.
--Plumber coming in today and will finish the last contractor work by the end of the week? Hopefully.

Almost done,

The past week

has been an orgy of painting and staining, since we haven't had pesky contractors cluttering up the space. Kudos to Brian M., Brian R., and Lindsay for their help last weekend staining and painting. Jon and I finished the staining this week. The painting is nearly done (the backroom ceiling is finally done! What a bitch! It doesn't look great, but it looks passable, and we're just going to call it Tuscan Sunrise if anyone ever questions us), except of course the floor, which has to wait until everything else is done. We also need to put another coat of paint on the walls tomorrow/this weekend, so any interested helpers are welcome--it should be an easy and fun job.

By the way, our tap system is now complete. Hurrah. All we need is kegs and we're in business. The only contractor with work still to do is our plumber, who is proving as slippery as a greased armadillo. But he's promised to come in tomorrow and start work on the drains for our bar and the gas line for our HVAC unit.

The next step for us after painting and staining is putting a few coats of polyurethane on all the surfaces that might get wet; we're also going to install a waterproof floor behind the bar. There are a number of small projects, but really nothing big left. We'll be able to finish them while waiting for sign-offs from the building, health, and fire folks.

Onward.

Big update

Okay:

--The carpenter is done.
--The HVAC guys are essentially done.
--Our tap system is in, and an hour from being done.
--The electrician is finishing his work as I speak.
--The plumber will be done next week.
--We hung our signs and built little window boxes yesterday. Any recommendations on items to place in the windows would be welcome.
--We did a massive amount of carting, and the space is essentially clear, ready to paint and stain (this weekend, come by!) and finish.
--We took a bunch of pictures, which will be up whenever Jon decides to send them to me. Silly business partner.

That's all I can say in this final flurry for now. Pictures and explanations later.

New material soon, I promise

The last few weeks have been hectic with families visiting, inter-bar shenanigans with the Cherry Tree, and so on. But we're taking some new photos so you can see all the work we've done. Essentially our carpenter is finished and we finally get the space to ourselves to clean up, paint, stain, and varnish everything. I think we're about a week away from having a finished space. Then it's just waiting for sign-offs.

Biggest news of the past couple weeks: we have a liquor license. So there.

More soon.
