A relatively stochastic menagerie of friends, Halloween madness, and dogs:

We Now Have Schaefer

For all of you who have been patiently waiting for us to have cheap macrobrew cans, your agonies are now over. We have cans of Schaefer for $3. We're excited about Schaefer because, as some of you may know, it has a glorious past in Brooklyn, where it built one of the greatest pre-Prohibition breweries in the US, in Red Hook. Schaefer was one of the best-selling, if not the best-selling, beers in the world at one time; and it was the last operating brewery in New York City when it closed in 1976. So you could say that Brooklyn Brewery, Chelsea, and Sixpoint have picked up where Schaefer left off. Schaefer is now owned by Pabst and brewed out of Miller's facilities in Milwaukee, but it's still based on that old Brooklyn recipe.

So join us in reciting Schaefer's old slogan: "What do you hear in the best of circles? Schaefer, all around!"

Guy Fawkes Night Beer Update

Looks like we'll have the following Sixpoint beers on Guy Fawkes Night, November 5. Not quite eight, but six really good beers:

Sweet Action
Brownstone
Bengali Tiger IPA
Belgian Rye
Amber

Cask: Righteous Rye

By the way, we'll also be showing V for Vendetta later on in the evening, in keeping with our general Guy Fawkes theme.

Once again, I wholeheartedly encourage you to stop by. This is going to be a great event, trust us.

Thanksgiving at Pacific Standard

On Thanksgiving Day, we here at Mother Standard would like to coddle anybody who (like us) will be away from home. We're having a potluck beginning at 3ish--if you bring something, you can feel free to eat from others' dishes. Good cheer will abound like Brett Favre touchdown passes on the big projection screen. Why am I so confident about the good cheer? Well, we have a $25 all you can drink special. That's right--all of our noble microbrews, our semi-noble wine, everything. (Those wanting to drink less can enjoy an all-day happy hour instead). Come by--we promise to welcome you into our turkey juice-encrusted arms.

Two recent reviews of the Standard

I'm compiling a fuller list of reviews, but for now, you can check out these two recent reviews, one in the Village Voice and the other in New York Magazine. When I read reviews of our bar, it feels extraordinarily like I personally am being reviewed, so I'm always nervous, but both are positive (yay and so on!):

Pacific Standard Comedy Night

is coming up on Tuesday, November 6. We've got a great lineup of professional comedians; save the date and I'll provide more details in a bit.

Boggle Happy Hour

For those of you who have been waiting for more exciting happy hour specials at the Standard, I'm proud to announce that we have created a Boggle Happy Hour, which we're running Mondays-Fridays from 4-8 pm. You shake a Boggle dome up and whichever square your yellow cube lands on, you get the discount written on it. Discounts range from $1 off to 2-for-1, with specific beer specials as well ($2 Sierra, $3 Stone, etc.) So come by and give it a whirl!

Guy Fawkes Night Announcement

Pacific Standard and Sixpoint present

Guy Fawkes Night

at Pacific Standard, 82 Fourth Avenue (between St. Mark's and Bergen), Brooklyn,

November 5, 2007, at 8 pm.

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason, and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot...

We at Pacific Standard and Sixpoint think it's high time Americans start remembering and celebrating the most obscure, nerdy, yet coolest holiday in the British Empire, Guy Fawkes Night. Whether or not we're British, Catholic, or Protestant, I think we can all agree that men who try to blow up large buildings should be stopped, and that the successful stopping of these men should be celebrated yearly with beer, toffee, and the destruction of effigies. The uninitiated may find more information on Guy Fawkes Night here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night

There will be eight Sixpoint beers on tap and, in honor of England, cask, including a brand new Belgian rye. Traditional Guy Fawkes night food will be available, Guy Fawkes-related music will be played, and Pacific Standard is creating a Guy Fawkes pinata that we'll joyfully maim with batons and golf clubs. In addition, a limited amount of awesome Guy Fawkes paraphernalia—tile coasters and magnets--will be available for purchase with Sixpoint beer at a special package price.

Those who show up before 8 pm can enjoy our $1 off happy hour, and people who bring/wear something Guy Fawkes-related (a mask, t-shirt, doll, whatever) will drink at $1 off all night! There will also be abundant specials on certain kegs, to be determined altogether capriciously by Pacific Standard's owners. If all that isn't good enough for you, you've been in New York too long. So:

Remember, remember, on the fifth of November,
to come to the Standard with cheer,
It is our cause that all Brooklyn jaws
Should be filled with toffee and beer.

Six Point Guy Fawkes Day at Pacific Standard

On Guy Fawkes Day, November 5, we'll be having a Six Point event here. There will be eight (8!) Six Point beers on tap, with some special brews not seen before, as well as all kinds of fun Guy Fawkes-related events and discounts. Definitely save the date for now--this is a must--and stay tuned for more details.
